Hi everyone!
The past two weeks have been a bit overwhelming, which is why I totally forgot to write a weekly recap for last week, which I found out on the day I was supposed to post it. So I'm honestly just going to smash last week and this week together in one post, whether you like it or not. As I said I have been a bit overwhelmed; I started challenging my medical issues a little so I'm making more progress, but at the same time that costs quite some energy. The past two weeks covered the end of February and the start of March. With this change the weather started to transform too, resulting in the sun coming out and me being unsure what to wear everyday. Well, if that is the worse, please give me all the nice weather. What crossed my path during these two weeks?
Books
I finished four books over the last two weeks. I don't know why, but I was expecting it to be more. At the same time, I don't understand why I expected that. I read some books that were challenging for me, or were a bit more difficult to get through for other reasons. Anyway, let's keep the reading going. The following books I read these weeks:
- Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield (3 stars)
- I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (5 stars)
- Orbital by Samantha Harvey (4.5 stars)
- Strong Female Character by Fern Brady (3 stars)
As you can see I have been on a non-fiction/memoir journey these past two weeks. The reviews for the books I read are in the wrap up
post of February, or will be in the March reading wrap up.
At the moment I have started my reread of The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien, which I'm so glad to be reading again. This time in English instead of my mother tongue. And I'm finally joining the incredibly large group of people who've read A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman. I'm praying to the book gods that this will live up to my expectations! These two books will probably take the entire week or longer, so I won't list books I would like to read after that, because it is simply not realistic.
Maybe most importantly, while on a walk this week I treated myself to an ice coffee and a new book. I caught a glance of the new Ali Hazelwood Deep End and I had to buy it. Ali Hazelwood is often a hit or miss for me, but her latest publications have all been hits, so I risked buying the physical edition. I'm planning on making it a April hopeful, or read it in March if I finish my entire tbr before the end of the month. Who knows?
Music
I have been listening to quite some different types of music over the past few weeks actually. For instance, while reading
Orbital I was listening to a space themed
playlist. It totally made me feel like I was in the book; I simply loved it. I try to do that more often actually. I simply look up a playlist specifically made for that book, or I try to find a book that fits the vibe of the book. I really recommend trying this! You already know I will be listening to Lord of the Rings music for my reread now.
Besides that I fell back in love with some musicals cast albums I have been listening. Very important mentions are Moulin Rouge The Musical and Frozen. These are two musicals I got to see last year, and I instantly fell in love with the music for both of these shows. Ironically, I'm writing this while the Hamilton Cast Album is playing in the background (so guess what will be on next weeks list, probably...)
The finally, I have been listening to a lot of Elton John lately, with very good reason (besides the fact that this man has amazing music). Because... I got to go to a Elton John tribute show this week! This was a way to challenge myself by going back into society again. It was supposed to be happening a few weeks ago, but the singer had the flu and the show got postponed. But we got to go this week! It was incredibly challenging for me, but I ended up really enjoying it, even though I was really tires at the end of the evening. The show was amazing and it reminded me how many songs by Elton John I actually know!
Podcast
With the beautiful weather suddenly showing up, I have been going on long walks a lot more the past week. While walking I often enjoy listening to a podcast, that way I don't have to skip songs that just don't hit at that moment. This week I listened to Mystery of Everything by Gabriella Rozefort and Brenna Hatter. In this podcast they discuss—you've guessed it right— mysteries! I had started listening to their podcast last year, but honestly only listened to one and a half episode. I loved it but life happens and I forgot about the existence of podcasts in general. So, I picked up where I left off and finished the episode on Shadowman and I listened to the episode on USO's. Really interesting, and I simply love the dynamic between the two hosts!
That was it for the past two weeks!
Love,
Kirsten
