April's Hopefuls

Hi everyone,

It's already April! Time is flying like crazy, but that means it is also time to make a new list of books I'd like to read this month. I think I'm being a bit ambitious with this list, but we'll see what happens. Last month the dominating genre was memoirs, so I decided to emphasize other genres this month. Let's dive into the list of books I'm planning to read:

First of all, I'm bringing The Bell Jar over from last month. I just didn't have enough time to finish reading it, and I don't want to rush through it.

Deep End by Ali Hazelwood: Hazelwood's work is always a hit-or-miss for me. Her latest publications were hits, so I'm hoping that will continue with this one. I heard mixed reviews, but honestly that doesn't say much since there were some hyped up books that I didn't enjoy much. I love that she is exploring romances that are not about scientists. The book I purchased last month so I'm also actively trying to read the books I actually buy. The book follows a swimmer and diver; a secret comes out and they start a temporary arrangement, but will it stay temporary?

The End of Loneliss by Benedict Wells: This is the bookclub pick for April. It is a book I have been looking forward to for quite a while. The book followa three siblings after the death of a parent. It entails their struggles and a love story. This month's theme was death/grief, and I think this honestly fits that theme perfectly. I can't wait to talk more about this book.

A Minor Detail by Adania Shibli: I'll be reading this palestinian book in Dutch, and honestly it has been on my shelf for a while, but I feel like now is the time to  read it. The book haunts you with its meditation on war, violence and memory. I feel like this is going to be a book that will stick with me for quite some time. A book that entirely reflects what is going on in this world at the moment.

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney: Another book I bought not too long ago. I have been looking forward to this book for a while, but at the same time I'm just scared it won't live up to my expectations. I just don't want this book to disappoint me. Her previous book wasn't a total let down, but it also did not live up to what I though it was going to be. It is a story about love, grief and family, following two brothers in the wake of their father's death.

The Outsider by Albert Camus: This is one of the books that is on the list of intimidating books I want to read this year. I don't know what it is about this book, but I'm scared to read it, yet something in me says that I absolutely have to read it, I want to read it. It's an classic, which also ties in to the theme of this month's bookclub (actually Intermezzo fits in aswell).

Phantasma by Kaylie Smith: This is kind of my silly read of the month. Meaning that I normally don't really gravitate towards dark romantasy, but I'm curious what this is all about. So I'm giving it a chance. I can't really describe what the book is about, because I want to go in blind. We'll see what my thought are at the end of the month!
