Weekly recap week 1

 Dear friends,

This blog is a place where I want to share little titbits about what I'm doing and what keeps me busy. I thought it would be nice to have a weekly recap, where I talk about the books I'm reading, the music I listened to, other pieces of media I enjoyed, and fun things I did. Some weeks will contain a lot of different pieces of media, other won't. It will be different every week, cause that is life.

The sun has been shining, it is a little cold some days, but atleast the sun is back. It makes the days so much better. Sometimes I'm just sitting in my living room letting the sun hit my face; just closing my eyes and enjoying the moment.

Books

I have been reading three books this week:

The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig I started at the start of this week. It had been a while since I read a horror book. I was in the mood for a good horror book, and this had been waiting on my bookshelf for quite some time—read a few years. I flew through this book and within a few days I got to the end. At the beginning of the book I wasn't sure what to think of it; it wasn't bad or something. I simply wasn't sure whether everything was going to make sense at the end of the book. I was hoping that there wouldn't be as much loose ends as I was expecting. Thankfully, this wasn't the case. The story was absolutely crazy, but everything made so much sense in the end. Was this an actually scary read? Not really, but I caught my self gasping several times due to the route the book was taking.
(4.25 stars)

Throughout the week I read My Policeman by Bethan Roberts; a historical fiction about Marion. She marries Tom, a policeman, who happens to be leading a second life as well, with Patrick a museum curator he recently met. The book has been on my tbr for quite some time, and got hyped up quite a bit. This caused my expectations to be quite high. In the end the book ended up not living up to this hype for me. I'm still unsure about what was missing; it read quite easily and I can't find a specific thing that I didn't like — at least for now. (3.5 stars)

A classic I always meant to read was Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We never read it in high school, and read Hamlet instead. So a few years ago when I saw a cheap edition I thought: you know what? Let's buy it. Now years later I finally got to it. I can totally see the appeal, and I love to see the phrases that have become such important parts of the English language. In the end I prefer Hamlet over this, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it! I actually enjoyed it quite a lot! (4 stars)

Music

This week I mostly just put my endless playlist — it is embarissing how long this playlist is—on shuffle enjoying all types of music. I often put on this playlist when I don't want to have to make decisions about what to listen to. But a few days I had the Smart Shuffle feature one, which helped me add some new music to this playlist. Some of these songs were:

The Yawning Grave by Lord Huron

Sunshine in The Room by James Bay (ft. Jon Batiste)

Arm's Length by Sam Fender

The Kids Are All Dying by FINNEAS

Article

I have been discovering Substack over the past few weeks, and one of the articles that really interested me was about how we talk about books in the online space. I think it is a really interesting thing to keep in mind, and I actually saved the article so I could reread it again later.

Another interesting article on Substack was this. The author explains why she thinks school libraries are so important. It made me think how I loved going to the school library during the first two years of high school, but then in the last few years the library was often closed and my love for reading was pushed to the background in those years.
